Helping Glen Cove Protect Our Community, Homes & Environment from Wildfire

About Us

The Glen Cove Fire Safe Council is a project of the Glen Cove Community Association in Vallejo, CA. We unite residents for fire safety, preparedness, and education. The GCFSC is committed to raising awareness of fire risk, encouraging our residents in fire mitigation practices, and working with local officials on concerns such as evacuation, disaster planning, and wildfire response.

Fire Preparedness & Evacuation

Creating and maintaining defensible space around your home and outbuildings before fire-prone summer months is imperative to avoid major damage to your property when wildfire strikes. Evacuating because of a fire can be a stressful experience, but if you already have a plan of what you want to take with you, you can save yourself a lot of stress in the days that follow.

Firewise USA®

Firewise USA® is a program of the National Fire Protection Association. This voluntary designation recognizes communities where neighbors organize for better fire preparedness, develop a plan, and take action to improve their area’s fire resilience. Firewise communities complete actions such as “hardening” homes against wildfire and maintaining defensible space, managing vegetation in the surrounding areas, and educating residents about ways to be better prepared against wildfire.

To earn the Firewise USA® designation, Glen Cove residents teamed up with Solano Resource Conservation District and staff from Wildland Res Mgt to conduct a comprehensive survey of all 2,443 buildings in the community. Those results – covering features like construction materials, vegetation clearance around structures, and open space features – were then incorporated into a Community Action Plan outlining the steps Glen Cove will take over the next three years on its journey toward fire resilience.
